A former Commissioner for Communication and Orientation in Edo State, Efe Stewart, has, on Tuesday, denied allegations of involvement in last Thursday’s political violence that claimed the life of a police officer.
Stewart, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, accused the state government of trying to tarnish his reputation, according to the Punch.
Stewart stated that he left the PDP due to irreconcilable differences and a desire to promote good governance in the state. He denied any involvement in the violence and urged the public to disregard the allegations made by the state government.
The incident has sparked a political row between the PDP and APC in the state, with both parties calling for a probe and accusing each other of involvement in the violence.
He said, “This is to let Edo residents know that I was not involved in last Thursday’s political violence, which claimed the life of a police officer.
“I left the PDP when it became obvious that I could not work with the person spearheading the PDP activities in my local government in Egor..”
