The Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, said the local government poll in the state was successful.
He stated that the commission was satisfied with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the ongoing local government council election in the state.
He made the remark while speaking with journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Ibadan shortly after an election monitoring exercise in collaboration with the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebola Hamzat, and heads of all security agencies in the state.
Aare Olagunju, who noted that complaints about the late arrival of election materials at some polling units had been addressed, assured the people of Oyo State that their votes would count, according to the Independent.
“I am very glad everywhere is calm, there was no violence, we have addressed all concerns about the late arrival of election materials at some polling stations,” Olagunju said.
He appealed to the electorate to exercise their franchise by voting for the candidates of their choice.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adebola Hamzat, stressed that the collaborative efforts of security agencies had paid off as the election is ongoing under a peaceful atmosphere, adding that minor skirmishes from the hinterlands were being addressed.
Mr. Hamzat urged the people to come out to vote and elect their choice candidates as representatives in government.
“We have deployed enough security personnel; our people would see them everywhere. There is no cause for alarm; so far so good.”
