80 abducted Kaduna worshippers escape from captivity

Eighty worshippers abducted during a church service in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have reportedly escaped from captivity and reunited with their families.

The Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Mr. Ishaku Dan’azumi, confirmed the development on Sunday, revealing that the victims fled from the bandits’ hideout and found safety in nearby communities.

Dan’azumi explained that although earlier reports indicated that about 177 worshippers were taken during the attack, subsequent checks showed that 80 of them successfully escaped. This leaves 86 worshippers still being held by the abductors.

He noted that the incident has left many families traumatised, while expressing concern over attempts by some individuals to politicise the tragedy.

“We have observed that some people are trying to politicise our situation, even as families are going through serious trauma,” he said.

The village head appealed to the government and security agencies to urgently step up efforts to rescue those still in captivity.

“We are appealing to the government and the military to expedite action to secure the safe return of the remaining 86 people still in the bandits’ camp,” Dan’azumi added.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said an official statement would be released by the command.
