President Bola Tinubu on Thursday formally presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with the certificate confirming his nomination as the All Progressives Congress’ vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to The Punch, the brief presentation took place at the President’s office inside the State House, Abuja.
A 45-second video released by the State House media office showed Shettima being led into Tinubu’s office by the President’s Liaison Officer before the certificate was handed over.
The presentation followed the APC’s submission of the nomination forms of Tinubu and Shettima to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the electoral body’s deadline for presidential and National Assembly candidates.
On July 10, the nomination documents were presented to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Continental Hotel in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, acting on Tinubu’s behalf.
INEC had initially fixed July 11, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit Forms EC9 and EC9A–EC9E for presidential, vice-presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates, in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.
However, following calls from stakeholders, the commission extended the submission deadline to Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The APC subsequently submitted the names of Tinubu and Shettima as its presidential ticket for the 2027 election, with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, expressing confidence that the ruling party would secure another victory at the polls.
During the APC presidential primary held on May 23, Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, by polling 10,999,162 votes against Osifo’s 16,503.
The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16 under the revised electoral timetable provided for in the Electoral Act 2026.
