2027: Ambode mobilises Lagos APC for Tinubu, Hamzat

Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has begun mobilising his political allies to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mobilisation came after Ambode met with his political associates on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to discuss strategies for strengthening the party’s unity and improving its electoral chances.

According to a statement issued by the Ambode Support Associates and shared with The PUNCH on Thursday, the former governor “reaffirmed his commitment to party unity, strengthening political relationships and securing electoral victories for the APC.”

The group’s representative, Adeshina Tiamiyu, disclosed that plans were underway to host Hamzat and other APC candidates in Epe next week as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s support base across Lagos State.

He said the planned gathering was intended to “demonstrate the strength, unity and collective resolve of the Lagos APC,” with party members, political leaders, community stakeholders and other supporters expected to participate.

Tiamiyu added that the meeting would serve as an avenue for “strengthening existing alliances, deepening political collaboration and renewing commitment to the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.”

The statement further revealed that the mobilisation would involve Community Development Associations, market women, artisans, persons living with disabilities and other groups to rally support for Tinubu and Hamzat.

It said the initiative was driven by the group’s philosophy of “One Nation, One Community, One Family”, emphasising inclusiveness in its political engagement.

“The message is clear: unity must translate into action, relationships must translate into stronger alliances, and collective commitment must translate into electoral success because we believe strongly in inclusion,” the statement said.

Ambode governed Lagos State between May 2015 and May 2019 after succeeding Babatunde Fashola, who held office from 2007 to 2015. Tinubu, the incumbent President, was governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.

The former governor, who emerged as the APC candidate in the 2015 Lagos governorship election, served one term before losing the party’s 2018 governorship primary to Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Sanwo-Olu subsequently won the 2019 election and succeeded him as governor.
