Obi’s ally backs Makinde’s 2027 presidential ambition

A former grassroots mobiliser for the Obidient Movement, Serah Ibrahim, has endorsed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s bid for the presidency ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ibrahim declared her support on Wednesday at the unveiling of the Allied Peoples Movement’s presidential manifesto in Abuja, where she introduced Makinde and described him as the “most outstanding Nigerian on the ballot”.

Her endorsement has drawn attention due to her longstanding association with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom she actively supported during the 2023 presidential election.

In a post on her X account on Wednesday, Ibrahim revealed that she was involved in the development of Makinde’s policy manifesto, known as the Reset Agenda, which she said was a privilege and a responsibility.

She wrote, “An honour to have been part of the process of developing the Policy Manifesto of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde.

It has been both a privilege and a responsibility. Today, it was an honour to introduce it to Nigerians.”

The former Obidient mobiliser urged Nigerians to study the manifesto and offer their opinions on its four key pillars, which cover the economy, security, education and governance.

“Please give it a read on seyimakinde.org and let’s hear your thoughts on the 4 Pillars of the #ResetAgenda God Bless Nigeria,” she added.

Although Ibrahim’s participation in the event and her public declaration of support are seen as an endorsement of Makinde’s presidential ambition, she has yet to announce a formal exit from the Obidient Movement.

She has remained associated with Obi’s political activities since the 2023 election, particularly through grassroots mobilisation for the former Anambra State governor.

Obi had previously dismissed speculation about a rift between himself and Ibrahim in a video, describing her as his daughter.

“No, Serah is my daughter. How will a father fight with his daughter? Everybody you see around me are my children, and I love and care for all of them,” he said.
