WQC: Sanusi, Uche replace injured Dessers, Osayi-Samuel in S’Eagles squad

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that Zaidu Sanusi and Chrisantus Uche have been drafted into the Super Eagles squad as replacements for Cyriel Dessers and Bright Osayi-Samuel, both of whom have been ruled out through injury.

The update was confirmed on the Super Eagles’ official X handle on Saturday, just days before Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Dessers and Osayi-Samuel’s absence comes as a blow to the team, with the pair now set to miss the upcoming qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

There could be further concerns for head coach Finidi George, as Felix Agu was forced off during Werder Bremen’s Bundesliga clash with St. Pauli, raising doubts over his availability.

The Super Eagles will face Lesotho on October 10 in Polokwane, South Africa, before travelling to Cotonou to play Benin Republic on October 14.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 11 points, three behind leaders Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa, as the race for qualification reaches its final stages.
