England staged a dramatic comeback to keep their European title defence alive, edging past Sweden 3-2 in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a thrilling quarter-final clash.
Trailing 2-0 at half-time following sharp finishes from Kosovare Asllani and Stina Blackstenius, the Lionesses looked to be heading for the exit against a dominant Swedish side.
But in a stunning late twist, England clawed their way back into the game. Lucy Bronze ignited the revival with a powerful header from Chloe Kelly’s delivery, before Michelle Agyemang struck moments later to level the score.
The contest ultimately came down to nerves from the spot. Despite Swedish goalkeeper Jennifer Falk heroically saving four penalties, she faltered when it was her turn to step up.
Bronze then sealed the win for England in sudden death, coolly converting the decisive spot-kick.
With the comeback complete, England now face Italy in the semi-finals, just one step away from a shot at back-to-back European crowns.
