Canadian rap star, Drake, has once again fallen victim to the infamous “Drake Curse” after losing a $1.5 million wager when Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup final.
The Canadian musician had placed his bet on Argentina through the betting platform Stake on Saturday, hoping to earn a return of more than $5.1 million.
However, Spain’s triumph ended those hopes, adding another chapter to his string of unsuccessful sports bets.
The latest setback has reignited discussion about the so-called “Drake Curse,” a phenomenon in which teams or athletes backed by or associated with the rapper often go on to suffer defeats.
Just days before the World Cup final, Drake also lost a $1 million bet after Conor McGregor was beaten by Max Holloway in their UFC contest.
The trend has become so notable that a website, TheDrakeCurse.com, was created to document the rapper’s sports betting record.
Born Aubrey Drake Graham, the 39-year-old is widely known for hit songs including One Dance, Passionfruit, and Hold On, We’re Going Home.
In May, the five-time Grammy Award winner surprised fans by releasing three albums simultaneously, Iceman, Maid of Honour, and Habibti. The projects marked his first full-length releases since 2023.
Drake was also recently involved in a widely publicised feud with American rapper Kendrick Lamar, who targeted him in the diss track Not Like Us.
