Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has apologised to fans following the disruption of his comedy show in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, and called on the organisers to provide refunds for affected ticket holders.
The show, tagged AY Live: Single and Not Searching, was scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff as part of the comedian’s UK tour.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Monday, AY attributed the disruption to unresolved payment commitments, which he said delayed his appearance at the venue.
According to him, he and other comedians travelled to the venue and gained entry but were unable to perform before most of the audience left.
“My fellow comedians and I travelled to Cardiff to perform and eventually entered the venue. Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left,” he said.
The comedian expressed regret over the experience, acknowledging that the audience deserved better planning and timely communication from the event organisers.
“You deserved a properly organised show and timely information. You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” he stated.
AY also urged fans to watch a video in which he provided further details of his account of the incident, advising them to understand his explanation before reaching conclusions.
He called on the event organisers and the UK tour management to address the concerns of affected attendees and provide clear information on refunds.
“I am calling on the organisers and our UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for ticket holders, including refund information,” he said.
He added that verified updates would be communicated through his official channels.
The disruption reportedly sparked complaints on social media, with some attendees expressing frustration over the prolonged wait and confusion surrounding the event.
As of Monday, the organisers had yet to issue a public explanation of the incident or announce specific arrangements for refunding ticket holders.
Despite the setback, AY said the remaining dates on his UK tour were still scheduled to hold.
The upcoming shows are billed for Birmingham on October 30, London on October 31, and Manchester on November 1.
The comedian also thanked his supporters for their loyalty over the past two decades, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining their trust.
