Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, has suggested to the parliament that villagers near the Abuja airport should be relocated, stating that he does not like seeing old houses when landing there, and that it affects the image of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a series of viral videos circulating online, the Ebonyi senator made this motion during plenary, stating that when descending in an aircraft, the sight of the village behind the airport in the FCT is an eye-saw.
He said, “Mr president, I want the FCT Minister to extend his infrastructural development of FCT within the surroundings of Abuja airport.
“Mr president, distinguished colleagues, if you are descending into Abuja airport, the habitants, the type of infrastructure within the environs does not represent the good image of this country.
“I think that the FCT Minister should capture in their next budget, if not incorporated in this, to either relocate the habitants of the people within the airport or renew the area because that is the mirror of the country as you are descending into Abuja airport. Some of us, if we take into account to view the environs of the airport while descending into Abuja, you will agree with me your Excellency, it is an eye-saw, it doesn’t give good image of the nation…”
