US Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, boyfriend arrested for over speeding

United States Olympic sprinter, Sha’Carri Richardson, was arrested on Thursday, January 29, in Florida after being pulled over for excessive speeding, bodycam footage obtained by TMZ and Fox News reveals.

Richardson’s Aston Martin was clocked at 104 mph in a 65 mph zone as she weaved through traffic, flashing her lights to clear the road.

The footage shows Sgt. Gerald McDaniels of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office approaching Richardson and warning her, “I would wipe that smile off your face.” He tells her she is “being stopped for dangerous, excessive speeding” and adds, “You’re going to jail for dangerous excessive speeding.”

Richardson pleads with the officer, saying, “I really want to work with you, sir. I am a law-abiding citizen.” She becomes increasingly desperate, begging, “Sir, please don’t allow me to go to jail. Please. Please, sir… I’m begging you. Don’t take me to jail.”

She attempts to explain her high speed, blaming an underinflated tire and a slipped phone that changed her car’s settings. Sgt. McDaniels dismisses the reasoning, replying, “that’s why they give you a speedometer.”

Richardson was formally arrested and booked into Orange County Jail on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding at 100 mph or more, along with four civil traffic infractions. She later posted a $500 bond.

Her boyfriend, fellow U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman, was also arrested during the stop, facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.

This marks Richardson’s second arrest in recent months; she was previously charged with domestic violence following an altercation with Coleman at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in July.
