Two injured, three rescued in separate Lagos accidents

Two people were left with serious injuries while three others were rescued in separate road crashes that occurred over the weekend in Mile 2 and Surulere areas of Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incidents, noting that its quick response helped save lives and ease traffic flow.

At Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG reportedly rammed into a stationary Scania truck, marked LSR 243 YC.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Camry driver was speeding excessively, which led to loss of control and the crash,” Taofiq explained.

He added that the truck driver was taken into custody at the scene by LASTMA officials with support from officers of the Ijanikin Police Division. The vehicles were later cleared to restore normal traffic in the area.

One of the survivors, Mrs. Aina Kadri, told officials that the accident was caused by a sudden brake failure while the bus was in motion.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the officers for their swift response and praised their coordination with the Nigeria Police.

“Our men acted with professionalism and speed, ensuring victims received prompt medical attention and traffic was managed effectively,” Bakare-Oki said.

He, however, urged drivers to be cautious on Lagos roads. “We appeal to all motorists to observe speed limits and carry out routine checks on their vehicles. Excessive speeding and mechanical negligence are major causes of road accidents, and they are avoidable,” he added.
