A mini truck conveying goods has rammed into two cars on the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing extensive damage to the vehicles and heavy traffic disruption, though no casualties were recorded.
The accident occurred around noon on Friday, with eyewitnesses attributing the crash to brake failure.
According to accounts from the scene, the truck lost control, veered off its lane, and collided with two vehicles on the bridge.
The impact reportedly forced a black Sports Utility Vehicle to mount another car, leaving both vehicles badly damaged.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said emergency responders were immediately deployed and no lives were lost.
In a statement shared on its official X handle, LASTMA said, “A multiple vehicle accident involving a truck and two cars has occurred along Berger inward Secretariat. Authorities are present at the scene to ensure safety and restore normalcy.”
The agency added that traffic congestion had built up significantly following the crash.
“No casualties have been recorded as of the time of this report. Traffic backlog has extended from Jubilee Estate back to Berger New Garage,” the statement read.
LASTMA assured motorists that evacuation efforts were ongoing, noting that traffic officers were on ground to ease vehicular movement.
“Efforts are currently ongoing for evacuation, and our men are present to ensure ease of traffic flow,” the agency said.
Otedola Bridge has long been identified as a major accident hotspot in Lagos, with frequent crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and fuel tankers.
In June 2018, a devastating tanker explosion on the bridge claimed at least 12 lives and destroyed dozens of vehicles. Since then, recurring incidents, including container falls and multi-vehicle collisions, have continued to raise safety concerns among road users and authorities.
Emergency responders remained at the scene on Friday as they worked to clear the wreckage and restore free flow of traffic on the busy expressway.
