Troops repel terrorist attack in Taraba, kill two suspects

Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a planned terrorist attack in Taraba State, neutralising two suspects during an operation in Tor-Ikyeghgba village.

The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, took place on Wednesday following intelligence reports that armed groups were regrouping in the area.

Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the brigade, confirmed the development in a statement.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our troops advanced to Tor-Ikyeghgba village where bandits were reported to be converging. On arrival, contact was made with the terrorists along the powerline axis. They were engaged with superior firepower, leading to the neutralisation of two,” Muhammad said.

Items recovered from the scene included one locally made pistol, two dane guns, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and other materials.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their swift and professional response.

“The resilience and courage displayed by our soldiers is commendable. I urge them to sustain the momentum until criminal elements are completely rooted out of the state,” Uwa was quoted as saying.

He assured residents that the army remains committed to protecting communities across Taraba and called for more cooperation from locals.
