Troops destroy terrorist hideout in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army has recorded another operational success in Zamfara State, where troops of Sector 2 under Operation Fansan Yamma reportedly neutralised a suspected terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and dismantled a criminal camp during a security operation.

According to an operational report released on Saturday, the operation was carried out on June 12 in parts of Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to tackle banditry and insecurity in the North-West region.

The report stated that soldiers conducting a fighting patrol through Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities encountered armed terrorists operating in the Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.

“Troops made contact with the terrorists during the patrol and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect, while others fled the area,” the report noted.

Military authorities said several items were recovered from the scene, including rifles, four ammunition-filled magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.

The report further disclosed that the troops sustained pressure on the fleeing suspects and advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the criminals reportedly abandoned their hideout upon sighting the advancing soldiers.

“The camp was subsequently cleared and destroyed to prevent its future use as a base for criminal activities,” the report added.

During the clearance operation, soldiers also rescued three kidnapped victims and evacuated them to safety.

The military reaffirmed its determination to continue offensive operations across Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West until armed groups responsible for terrorism and banditry are dismantled.

“The Armed Forces remain committed to restoring lasting peace and security in affected communities through sustained military operations,” the report stated.

The operation is part of ongoing security efforts aimed at curbing bandit attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
