President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Monday depart Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
The visit was announced on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement confirming the official engagement.
According to the Presidency, the trip is designed to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in key sectors such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
“The state visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing its long-standing relationship with Türkiye while opening new areas for collaboration that will benefit both nations,” Onanuga said.
The visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s state visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic talks with Turkish officials, focusing on shared priorities in finance, communications, trade, and investment.
Onanuga disclosed that discussions would culminate in the signing of several memoranda of understanding covering areas such as scientific research, energy development, technical cooperation, defence and military relations, media and communications, as well as diplomatic protocol.
“The programme will include engagements between senior officials of both governments and the execution of agreements aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation,” the statement added.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also form part of the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore new commercial opportunities and partnerships.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Other officials on the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
