The Federal Controller of Works in Adamawa State, Dimas Tuwai, has dismissed allegations that the Federal Government is sidelining the state in the allocation of road infrastructure projects, insisting that the Tinubu administration has committed about N156 billion to major road contracts across Adamawa.
According to The Punch, speaking in an exclusive interview with Arewa Punch in Yola on Wednesday, Tuwai said the Federal Government had awarded fresh contracts and revived previously abandoned road projects, with many already at advanced stages.
“The president approved three major roads across the three senatorial districts of Adamawa State,” he said.
According to him, the projects include the rehabilitation of the Jimeta–Mayo-Belwa road at a cost of N83 billion, the second phase of the Yola–Hong–Mubi road rehabilitation, and the second phase of the Fufore–Gurin road project.
He said the 20-kilometre Fufore–Gurin phase was approved at N15.246 billion after the completion of the initial 17-kilometre stretch.
Tuwai further disclosed that the Federal Government had also awarded four additional road projects aimed at improving economic activities in the state.
These include the 85-kilometre Jamblamba–Malabu road, which he said is about 40 per cent completed, the ongoing 44-kilometre Jada–Mbula–Ganye road, the 40-kilometre Mayolini–Mayo-Belwa road scheduled to commence soon, and the 90-kilometre Toungo–Karanti road linking Adamawa and Taraba states.
He attributed the abandonment of some road projects in the past to inadequate funding under previous administrations, expressing confidence that the current government would complete ongoing works while initiating new ones.
The controller also announced that rehabilitation works on the Cham–Numan road and the bridge near the Numan–Savannah Sugar Refinery had been completed. He added that the first 17-kilometre phase of the Yola–Fufore road had been delivered, while the second phase had already been awarded.
On the Numan–Jalingo road project, Tuwai explained that it is still under review because of the rising cost of construction materials.
He appealed to residents of Adamawa State to continue supporting the Tinubu administration, assuring them that the Federal Government remains committed to expanding and rehabilitating critical road infrastructure to stimulate economic growth across the state.
