President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh appointments to the governing councils of several federal universities, naming respected media scholar Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye among the new council members.
The announcement, contained in a Tuesday statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed the appointment of Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. Obih’s nomination follows the passing of a previous council member.

He currently chairs the institution’s Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography as well as UNILAG Radio 103.1FM and Television.
“Akinfeleye replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who has been appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State,” Onanuga noted.
The President also named Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. According to the statement, Yakasai earned his medical degree (MBBS) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before securing a European Economic Commission scholarship for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. He later became a member and fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
