Tinubu confirms rescue of Kwara worshippers, 51 Niger schoolchildren

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced major breakthroughs in ongoing security operations across the country, confirming the rescue of all 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the President said the operation was carried out by security forces who had been working “tirelessly” in recent days to secure the victims’ release.

Tinubu also disclosed progress in Niger State, where 51 of the students kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School were recovered.

According to him, the decision to cancel his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa was to allow him remain in the country and personally monitor security responses.

“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home,” the President said.

He added: “Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued. I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered.”

Tinubu said he has been receiving round-the-clock reports from teams at the frontline as the government intensifies operations to tackle kidnapping and banditry.

“Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” he assured.
