The management of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that the institution was shut down following an invasion by bandits.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the University Registrar, Mr. Dapo Oke, described the viral publication as “false, misleading, and crafted to cause unnecessary panic among students, staff, and the general public.”

According to Oke, the university has not issued any directive ordering the suspension of academic activities or asking students to vacate their hostels. He stressed that normal activities are ongoing across the campus.

“The attention of the university management has been drawn to false and malicious news circulating about the supposed closure of the university due to a bandit invasion of Ijebu Ode,” he said.

“We wish to state clearly that no such directive was issued, and the institution remains safe, peaceful, and fully operational.”

He further urged members of the public to disregard the unfounded report and desist from spreading unverified information that could heighten tension.

“The welfare and safety of our students remain our utmost priority. We reassure all stakeholders that Ijebu Ode and Ijagun are safe, and academic activities continue as scheduled,” Oke added.

The Registrar encouraged staff and students to carry on with their academic and administrative duties, advising the public to rely solely on the university’s official communication platforms for verified updates.

The clarification comes shortly after the Federal Government directed the temporary closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges nationwide due to rising security concerns.

In a circular signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir, the ministry noted that the measure was taken “to prevent any security breaches” amid recent abductions in parts of the country.

The development follows a series of school closures in Kebbi, Taraba, Kwara, and Plateau states in response to increasing bandit attacks and student abductions.

TAFSUED management, however, emphasised that the situation in Ijebu Ode remains calm and does not warrant any form of shutdown.
