Super Eagles’ Onyekuru returns to Turkey, joins Genclerbirligi on permanent deal

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru, has made a return to Turkish football, signing a two-year contract with Super Lig outfit Genclerbirligi.

The 28-year-old became a free agent last month after parting ways with Saudi Arabian side Al Fayha, where he made 29 league appearances and scored 10 goals in the 2023/24 season.

This move marks a familiar path for Onyekuru, who previously enjoyed successful spells in Turkey with Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor. He notably helped Galatasaray clinch both the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish Cup in the 2018/19 campaign.

A product of Qatar’s ASPIRE Academy, Onyekuru’s career has spanned several countries, having suited up for KAS Eupen in Belgium, Premier League side Everton, Anderlecht, AS Monaco, and Greek giants Olympiacos.

Now back in a league where he’s tasted glory before, Onyekuru will be hoping to rekindle that form with Genclerbirligi in the upcoming season.
