Super Eagles striker, Rafiu Durosinmi, is targeting at least 20 goals for Genk this season after making an impressive start to his career with the Belgian Pro League club.
The 23-year-old Nigerian also has his sights set on winning the league’s Golden Boot, having already scored five goals in his opening six league appearances.
Durosinmi joined Genk from Italian side Pisa during the summer for €10.5m, making him the club’s record signing.
He scored his latest goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Gent, with three of his five goals coming through headers and the other two from the penalty spot.
His early-season form represents a significant improvement on his time at Pisa, where he managed just one goal in 12 Serie A appearances after joining the Italian club in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.
Speaking after the draw with Gent, Durosinmi credited his confidence for his strong start to the campaign.
“I am happy to have been voted Man of The Match again. It also feels good to be the top scorer at the moment. In football, anything is possible, but you have to believe in it,” he said.
The forward is also determined to maintain his position among the league’s leading scorers and believes reaching the 20-goal mark would be a major achievement.
“At least 20 goals this season would be fantastic,” he said.
He added, “I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that.”
Former Genk striker, Paul Onuachu also influenced Durosinmi’s decision to move to the Belgian club after discussing his options with the Nigerian forward.
“He wondered why I had chosen Pisa in January and was curious about the options I had now. When I mentioned Genk, he immediately said that it was the best step for me,” Durosinmi said.
“That really gave me the final push to choose this club. And to be honest: the club really is fantastic. I had expected that because of all the good stories, but it has exceeded my expectations.”
Durosinmi also praised Genk head coach Jess Thorup, saying he settled at the club within a week.
He now has the examples of Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare, both of whom won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot while playing for Genk before moving to the Premier League.
