Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared Tuesday, October 7, a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers across the state.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, in Awka.
According to the commissioner, the decision followed the fact that this year’s World Teachers’ Day, which is marked globally on October 5, fell on a Sunday.
“In recognition of the contributions of teachers to the growth of the education sector, His Excellency, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as a school-free day to honour all teachers in Anambra State,” Chuma-Udeh stated.
She explained that the event will also feature a solidarity march by education stakeholders to commend the governor’s ongoing reforms in the education sector.
“The Solution Parents League will hold a mega endorsement march in appreciation of the governor’s revolution in the education sector,” she added. “Members of the Association of Private School Owners will join the Solution Parents League for the march.”
“The commissioner directed all teachers, parents, and proprietors to converge at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka by 8:00 a.m. for the event.
“This is a day to celebrate our teachers, appreciate their efforts, and give honour to whom honour is due,” Chuma-Udeh said.
