Vice President Kashim Shettima, standing in for President Bola Tinubu, has arrived at Eagle Square in Abuja for the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day celebration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Stanley Nkowcha, it was disclosed that the Vice President took the salute from officers on parade as the ceremony commenced.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently taking the salute from officers on parade as the 2026 National Police Day ceremony gets underway,” the statement read.
The event attracted top government officials, leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, security chiefs, and officers from across the country.
The grand finale features a ceremonial parade, with officers assembled in full formation to receive the Vice President, marking the official opening of the event.
The celebration is also set to honour police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, recognising their sacrifice and service to the nation.
National Police Day activities, which span a week, include medical outreaches, community engagement initiatives, and exhibitions by security organisations and partners.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the celebration is designed to strengthen collaboration between the police and the public while highlighting the Force’s contributions to national security.
He described the event as historic, noting that it provides an opportunity to recognise the dedication and sacrifices of police officers, as well as reinforce public trust in the institution.
Nigeria marks National Police Day annually on April 7 to honour the service and commitment of police personnel nationwide.
