Serie A: Torino hold Bologna to 1-1 draw

Bologna were held to a 1-1 draw by Torino in Raffaele Palladino’s first match in charge as the hosts missed the chance to claim their first Serie A victory of the season on Saturday.

Federico Bernardeschi gave Bologna the lead in the 15th minute after Cambiaghi broke down the left and delivered a low cross into the box.

Bernardeschi, left unmarked, met the ball first time and fired past Torino goalkeeper Franco Israel.

Bologna controlled much of the contest after taking the lead but failed to make their opportunities count as Torino struggled to create a clear opening.

The hosts were unable to extend their advantage before the break.

Torino improved after the restart and manager Ignazio Abate introduced Stipe Biuk Kulenovic in the second half in an attempt to strengthen his attack.

The change paid off in the 77th minute when Kulenovic levelled the score.

Kulenovic collected the ball near the halfway line before advancing towards the Bologna penalty area and sending a low effort towards goal.

Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski got a hand to the shot but could not hold it, allowing the ball to cross the line.

Torino then appealed for a penalty late in the match after Oristanio went down following a challenge from Heggem, but referee Marco Guida waved away the appeals.

The draw leaves Bologna with two points from their opening five Serie A matches, while Torino earned a point from a game in which they recovered from Bernardeschi’s early goal.
