Serie A: Lecce beat Cagliari 2-0, exit relegation zone

Lecce boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 2–0 away win over Cagliari in Monday night’s Serie A clash, climbing out of the relegation zone in the process.

The visitors struck twice at the Unipol Domus, with January signing Omri Gandelman and midfielder Ylber Ramadani finding the net to seal an invaluable three points.

Before the breakthrough, both sides wasted good chances. Riccardo Sottil fired over the bar after the ball dropped kindly for him inside the area in the 28th minute, while Cagliari’s Gabriele Zappa also blazed a half-volley over from a promising position at the other end.

Lecce eventually took the lead in straightforward fashion from a set piece. Sottil delivered a free kick from the right, and Gandelman rose highest near the six-yard box to power a header beyond the goalkeeper.

It was the Israeli international’s second goal in as many matches for the club.

The visitors doubled their advantage just 10 minutes later, again following a Sottil free kick.

Although Gandelman failed to make contact this time, Cagliari struggled to clear the danger.

The loose ball fell to Ramadani on the left edge of the area, and he squeezed a low effort past goalkeeper Elia Caprile from a tight angle.

The result lifts Lecce above Fiorentina and out of the bottom three, while drawing Genoa and Cremonese back into the relegation fight.

Cagliari, meanwhile, remain just four points clear of the drop zone.
