Serie A: Inter thrash Pisa 6-2 in comeback win

Inter Milan shook off an early nightmare to produce a breathtaking comeback, overturning a 2–0 deficit to thrash Pisa 6–2 and stretch their lead at the top of Serie A to six points.

The Nerazzurri were stunned inside the opening 23 minutes as Stefano Moreo punished two costly errors from goalkeeper Yann Sommer to give the visitors a shock advantage.

Sommer gifted Moreo the opener in the 11th minute with a misplaced pass, allowing the Pisa forward to curl home from distance, before the same player struck again soon after, glancing a header into the near post from Matteo Tramoni’s inswinging corner.

That early dominance, however, sparked Inter into life. The turning point arrived in the 39th minute when Tramoni handled the ball inside the area, conceding a penalty that Piotr Zielinski emphatically converted to ignite the comeback.

From there, the momentum swung decisively. Federico Dimarco, introduced as a first-half substitute with Inter still 2–0 down, immediately changed the complexion of the match.

His cross was met by Lautaro Martinez for the equaliser, before Alessandro Bastoni delivered a similar ball from the left that Francesco Esposito headed in to complete a remarkable first-half turnaround.

Inter were relentless after the interval, completely pinning Pisa back. Dimarco added a fourth himself, then teed up Ange-Yoan Bonny for the fifth, before Henrikh Mkhitaryan tapped in from close range during stoppage time to cap a dominant display.

By full-time, the numbers told the story. Inter fired 33 shots and racked up an expected goals figure of 4.78, while Pisa managed just eight attempts and 0.34 xG. After the break alone, Inter outshot their opponents 17–2.

Dimarco’s influence stood out in particular. The left-back finished with one goal, two assists and a game-high six chances created, while only Esposito attempted more shots than him.

It was a masterstroke substitution by Cristian Chivu that completely altered the flow of the contest.

For Pisa, Moreo’s explosive start was still historic, as he became the first player since Zlatan Ibrahimović in October 2020 to score twice within the opening 30 minutes of a Serie A match against Inter.

Despite their early wobble, Inter’s response was emphatic, a ruthless reminder of why they remain firmly in control of the title race.
