Serie A: Inter fight back to beat Udinese in eight-goal thriller

Inter Milan came from two goals down to defeat Udinese 5-3 in a thrilling Serie A encounter at San Siro on Monday.

Udinese stunned the hosts with two early goals as James Abankwah opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a header from Unai Gomez’s cross before Jurgen Ekkelenkamp doubled the advantage seven minutes later.

Inter responded through Carlos Augusto, who pulled one back in the 26th minute with a powerful effort from outside the box.

Nicolò Barella then restored parity nine minutes later, firing home after combining with Marcus Thuram as Inter recovered from their poor start to end the first half level.

Marcus Thuram completed Inter’s comeback in the 57th minute, finishing from close range after Andy Diouf raced down the right and delivered a low ball across the area.

The hosts extended their lead in the 67th minute when Francesco Pio Esposito struck a low effort from 12 yards following a neat exchange involving Curtis Jones and Piotr Zielinski.

Inter added a fifth goal 12 minutes later through Ange-Yoan Bonny, who converted at the second attempt after his initial effort was saved following a flowing team move involving Federico Dimarco, Esposito and Diouf.

Udinese reduced the deficit in stoppage time when Idrissa Gueye slid in at the far post to convert Sandi Lovric’s cross, but Inter held on to secure another comeback victory.
