Genoa secured their first point of the Serie A season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Frosinone at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday.
Frosinone took the lead in the 14th minute when Giorgi Kvernadze finished a swift attacking move.
Romano Schmid released the forward with a well-weighted pass after a long ball had been flicked on, and Kvernadze cut inside Alessandro Marcandalli before firing past the Genoa defence.
Genoa thought they had opened the scoring earlier through Tommaso Baldanzi, but the effort was ruled out for offside after Mikel Ellertsson was adjudged to have strayed beyond the last defender during the build-up.
The hosts were handed a major opportunity to draw level shortly before half-time after a VAR review awarded them a penalty for handball.
However, Lorenzo Colombo failed to convert, sending his effort wide and ensuring Frosinone retained their advantage at the break.
Genoa eventually found the equaliser five minutes into the second half.
Johan Vasquez escaped his marker and met Djibril Sow’s corner with a close-range volley to make it 1-1.
The hosts continued to push for a winner, with Colombo and Vitinha testing Frosinone goalkeeper Palmisani, while Justin Bijlow also made an important save to deny Kvernadze.
Genoa were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute when Vasquez received a second yellow card for pulling back Seydou Fini.
Frosinone almost snatched all three points in stoppage time, but Bijlow produced a crucial save to keep out Bobcek’s header from a corner.
The draw gives Genoa their first point of the campaign, while Frosinone maintained their impressive start after earlier victories over Fiorentina and Venezia.
