Serie A: Fiorentina edge Lazio 1-0 amid controversial VAR decision

Fiorentina secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Lazio at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, although the visitors will feel they did enough to at least claim a point after dominating several key phases of the match.

Lazio were the more dangerous side in attack and posted the better expected goals (xG) figure, but they were repeatedly denied by an inspired David de Gea, who produced a series of important saves from the opening minutes, most notably a strong stop to deny Mattia Zaccagni early on.

Despite Lazio’s pressure, Fiorentina made their chance count. Robin Gosens broke the deadlock with a first-half header, rising to meet a cross from the right and directing it past the goalkeeper to put the hosts in front.

A controversial moment followed when Rolando Mandragora went down under a challenge involving Noslin inside the penalty area.

Referee Livio Marinelli Fabbri initially booked Noslin for simulation, and after a VAR review, the on-field decision was upheld—no penalty was awarded to Lazio and the caution remained.

Fiorentina’s win extends their strong run to five matches without defeat and moves them to 35 points, well clear of the relegation zone.

Lazio, meanwhile, suffer their first league defeat in nearly a month and a half, with their previous loss coming against Torino on March 1.
