Ronaldinho makes shock return to football, joins Italian Serie C Ravenna

Brazil and Barcelona legend, Ronaldinho, has reportedly signed with Italian Serie C side Ravenna FC, marking a shock return from retirement.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 46-year-old will be formally unveiled at a special event scheduled for June 23 in Miami.

However, it remains unclear whether he will actually take to the pitch for Ravenna in the upcoming season.

“New colours, same smile,” Ronaldinho said.

“I can’t wait to be able to dance on the ball again to write a new story together with Ignazio and the whole Cipriani family. Football has always been a source of joy for me, I want to bring the same spirit to Ravenna.”

Ronaldinho last officially played professional football in 2015 during a short spell with Fluminense and has not featured competitively since hanging up his boots.

Ravenna owner, Ignazio Cipriani, expressed his excitement over the high-profile move, revealing that the Brazilian icon was a personal idol.

“He was my idol growing up, and his impact on the game extends far beyond football.

“Beyond what he brings to the club, I hope his involvement inspires a new generation of supporters to fall in love with Ravenna FC and become part of what we’re building for the future.”

Ravenna’s history includes several Italian football greats, with former Italy internationals Christian Vieri, Fabio Cannavaro, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Montella all having represented the club in earlier years, with Ronaldinho now joining that notable list.
