Rohr announces 25-man Benin squad for World Cup qualifiers

Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has unveiled a 25-man squad for the nation’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The German tactician handed a surprise call-up to Serge Obassa of Remo Stars, joining Saturnin Allagbe, the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, among the trio of shot-stoppers.

Rohr also retained several familiar faces in defence, including Olivier Verdon, Mohamed Tijani, and Cédric Hountondji, while David Kiki and Yohan Roche also made the cut.

In midfield, the experienced Sessi D’Almeida and Mattéo Ahlinvi lead a group that features Rodrigue Kossi, Dodo Dokou, and Imourane Hassan.

Captain Steve Mounié headlines the attack alongside Jodel Dossou, Junior Olaitan, and Tosin Aiyegun, as Rohr looks to strengthen his side’s offensive options.

The Squirrels will open their campaign away to Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday, October 10, before traveling to Uyo to face Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium four days later.
