Real Madrid sign Bernardo Silva on two-year deal

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Portugal international Bernardo Silva on a two-year contract, bringing the experienced midfielder to the Santiago Bernabeu after the end of his spell with Manchester City.

The Spanish giants confirmed on Wednesday that Silva, 31, has joined the club on a deal that will keep him in Madrid until June 30, 2028.

The midfielder departed City after his contract expired at the conclusion of the 2025 season, ending a highly successful nine-year stay at the Premier League club.

Since arriving from Monaco in 2017, Silva featured in 459 matches for City and scored 76 goals across all competitions. During that period, he played a key role in one of the most dominant eras in the club’s history.

His trophy haul includes 15 major honours, highlighted by four consecutive Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024, the historic treble-winning campaign of 2023, which included the Champions League crown, and a clean sweep of England’s four domestic trophies in the 2018/19 season.

Madrid have been active in the transfer market following a disappointing run that saw the club fail to secure a major title in each of the last two campaigns.

Earlier this month, recently re-elected club president Florentino Perez appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach in a bid to restore the club’s dominance.

The club also strengthened its squad on Monday with the acquisition of Spain left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth €55 million ($63.8 million).

Madrid are also expected to land Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate when his contract expires at Anfield, while Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries remains among the players linked with a move to the Spanish capital.
