Raphinha’s wife slams ‘absurd’ financial crisis claims

Natalia Belloli, wife of Barcelona and Brazil winger Raphinha, has strongly rejected reports suggesting that her family is facing financial difficulties, describing the claims as baseless and detached from reality.

Speculation about the family’s financial situation emerged after comments made by former Brazil international Vampeta, who hinted that the Barcelona star was dealing with economic challenges. However, Belloli has now publicly addressed the rumors, insisting there is no truth to them.

Speaking in remarks published by Daily do Garotinho, Belloli said she was surprised that she even had to comment on such personal matters.

“Honestly, I think it’s absurd that I even have to talk about my financial situation. If we were earning only 10% of what Raphinha makes today, we would still be incredibly blessed,” Belloli stated.

She explained that she initially chose not to respond because she was mindful of the economic struggles many people face and did not want her comments to be misunderstood.

“I see no reason to put that on social media because I’m fully aware of the social reality we live in. If I posted something saying, ‘Look, I’m not poor, I’m still rich,’ people would accuse me of lacking class,” she explained.

Belloli added that she expected the speculation to fade away, but decided to speak out after the rumors gained traction beyond Brazil.

“I thought the story would die down, but these rumors have now reached Spain, and everyone believes we’re going through financial hardship.”

The controversy can be traced back to comments made by Vampeta, a member of Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. During an appearance on the Red Cast podcast, the former midfielder claimed that Raphinha was facing significant family and financial issues, suggesting that such circumstances could eventually lead the winger to consider a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Vampeta acknowledged that the information was based on a rumor he had heard during the World Cup and said it came from individuals connected to Barcelona.

His remarks quickly spread across South America and Europe, prompting a reaction from those close to the player.

Among those who responded was Raphinha’s cousin, Igor Padilha, who challenged the former midfielder on social media.

“You’re going to have to explain these lies, my friend,” Padilha wrote.

Raphinha himself has not commented publicly on the matter. The 29-year-old is currently recovering from a muscle injury suffered during Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Haiti and remains focused on returning to full fitness.

With the family now addressing the rumors directly, attention is expected to shift back to the pitch as Brazil prepare for the knockout stages of the World Cup.
