Raphinha takes over Brazil’s No. 10 shirt from Neymar

Brazil winger, Raphinha, has been handed Brazil’s iconic No. 10 shirt following Neymar’s retirement from international football.

The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the Barcelona winger’s new squad number on Thursday ahead of the national team’s upcoming friendlies against Australia and India.

Raphinha is expected to wear the shirt for the first time when Brazil face Australia in Townsville on Friday, their first fixture since their elimination from the 2026 World Cup at the round-of-16 stage.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the development on X, posting, “OFFICIAL: Raphinha, Brazil’s new number 10 after Neymar Jr’s international retirement.”

The squad-number changes also see Endrick take the No. 9 shirt previously worn by Matheus Cunha, while Estêvão has been assigned No. 11. Vinícius Júnior retains the No. 7 shirt, while goalkeeper Hugo Souza will wear No. 1.

Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances, ended his international career after the 2026 World Cup.

The 34-year-old had worn the No. 10 shirt at four World Cups before announcing in late July that his time with the national team had come to an end.

Raphinha has previously worn the famous shirt during Neymar’s absences, including in World Cup qualifying matches.

However, following Neymar’s retirement, the number now officially passes to the next generation of the Seleção.

The No. 10 shirt has a rich history in Brazilian football, having previously been worn by legends including Pelé, Zico, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaká.

Raphinha will now carry the number as Brazil begin a new era under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, with Australia providing his first opportunity to wear the shirt as the national team’s official No. 10.
