Super Eagles defender, Felix Agu, made a successful return from injury as Werder Bremen defeated VfL Bochum 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Parkstadion in Zell am Ziller on Saturday.
Agu was handed a place in Werder Bremen’s starting XI for the training camp encounter, marking his first appearance since recovering from a muscular injury that sidelined him during the early stages of the club’s pre-season programme.
The 26-year-old had resumed individual training before being cleared to return to competitive action.
Werder Bremen took the lead three minutes before the break through Erevbenagie, who capitalised on a perfectly timed through ball from Olivier Deman.
The forward rounded Bochum goalkeeper Timo Horn before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
The Nigerian defender was heavily involved throughout his spell on the pitch and received a yellow card shortly after the interval following a heated exchange involving Alessandro Crimaldi and former Werder Bremen player Manuel Mbom.
With his fitness carefully managed, Agu was withdrawn in the 48th minute as head coach Daniel Thioune made a double substitution, ensuring the defender completed his comeback without any setbacks.
Werder Bremen doubled their advantage in the 70th minute when Salim Musah converted a penalty after being brought down inside the area, confidently sending Horn the wrong way to seal the victory.
The win rounded off an encouraging training camp in Austria for Werder Bremen, while Agu’s return offers an added boost ahead of the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.
