The Edo State Police Command has successfully secured the freedom of Sheikh Moritada Obhakhoboh, the Chief Imam of Uromi, who was abducted on July 7.

In a statement issued Monday night, Command Public Relations Officer CSP Moses Yamu revealed that the cleric’s release followed “intense and sustained pressure” on his captors. The Imam was freed unharmed and has been reunited with his family.

“The cleric, who was kidnapped on July 7 in the Angle 80 area of Uromi, was released unharmed and had since been reunited with his family,” Yamu stated.

Police launched immediate action after the abduction was reported to Uromi Divisional Headquarters on July 8. Tactical teams collaborated with local vigilantes to track the kidnappers.

Edo Police Commissioner CP Monday Agbonika praised the operatives while vowing to apprehend those responsible.

“No stone will be left unturned in identifying and apprehending those behind the kidnapping,” Yamu quoted the Commissioner as saying.

The Command urged continued public vigilance, with Yamu adding: “He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state.”
