The Anambra State Police Command has launched a continued investigation into the mysterious death of a 17-year-old apprentice, Chikamso Ejiofor, who was found lifeless in a compound in Umuzocha, Awka South Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the incident occurred on October 5, 2025.
The lifeless body was discovered by a resident upon returning from a church vigil and reported to authorities that same morning.
“At about 10:55 am, the Command received a report that a young man was found motionless in a compound in Umuzocha,” Ikenga stated.
“Operatives from the Central Police Station, Awka, visited the scene, took photographs for evidence, and moved the victim to a hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
Further investigation led to the identification of the deceased as Chikamso Ejiofor, an apprentice. His parents were later located and notified of the tragic incident.
However, they have opted not to press further charges or demand additional investigation, citing the deceased’s alleged difficult behavior.
“The family voluntarily decided not to pursue the case. They submitted a formal withdrawal letter and swore an affidavit indicating their position,” Ikenga added.
Despite the family’s stance, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry on with a thorough and discreet probe into the matter.
“The Command has a statutory duty to investigate all cases of unnatural death,” CP Orutugu emphasized. “This is essential not only for transparency but also to ensure justice is served where necessary.”
The Commissioner reaffirmed the police’s commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death, regardless of the family’s withdrawal.
