The Imo State Police Command has apprehended two suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle following an intelligence-led operation in Owerri.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the New Owerri Divisional Headquarters.

According to him, the suspects, identified as Sohnani Bitrus, 25, and Burfa Selkap, 25, were arrested on April 3 based on credible intelligence. He added that both individuals are from the Langtang Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Okoye explained that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects allegedly carried out a robbery operation at about 4:00 a.m., during which they invaded the residence of one Joel Andrew.

The spokesperson further disclosed that subsequent interrogation led operatives to the suspects’ hideout in Okwu-Uratta, located in Owerri North Local Government Area, where a pump-action rifle and a machete were recovered.

He added that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri to enable further investigation and facilitate the arrest of other members of the syndicate.

Okoye reiterated the commitment of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Audu Bosso, to maintaining security across Imo, particularly during and after the Easter period.
