The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that officers from its Kamba Division neutralised three suspected Lakurawa bandits following a fierce gun duel in Dandi Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred when a group of armed bandits invaded Gorun Yamma village.
“Acting swiftly on intelligence, Divisional Police Officer, Kamba, SP Mohammed Bello Lawal, mobilised a joint team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene.
“The security team engaged the bandits in a prolonged exchange of fire, resulting in the death of three suspects, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.
“A red, unregistered Honda motorcycle, popularly referred to as ‘Boko Haram’, was recovered at the scene,” the statement read.
Commending the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello Sani, applauded the bravery of the Kamba police team, saying their quick intervention prevented another potential tragedy in the area.
He further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for comprehensive investigation.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating violent crimes in the state and urged residents to remain alert while sharing timely intelligence with security operatives.
It will be recalled that in July, police operatives neutralised three bandits in separate coordinated operations across Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Niger states.
