Troops eliminate two suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during a military operation in Kebbi State.

The operation took place on Saturday along the Sabarumawa axis following intelligence reports that armed men were planning an attack on the community.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said personnel of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 quickly deployed to the area and laid an ambush on the suspected route the terrorists were expected to use.

According to Danja, “The operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed plans by the terrorists to attack the Sabarumawa community. Troops responded swiftly by positioning themselves along the suspected route to prevent the attack.”

He explained that the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a fierce gun battle when they approached the ambush position.

“The troops’ superior firepower overwhelmed the terrorists, leading to the neutralisation of two of them, while others escaped into the surrounding forest,” he said.

The military spokesman disclosed that security personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle from the scene.

Danja reaffirmed the military’s determination to sustain operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements across the North-West.
