Police foil robbery attempt in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of the state, recovering a Lexus vehicle used by the suspects during the operation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

According to Odutola, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. when a distress call was received from the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway. The report indicated that about five armed men were attempting to break into a residence in the area.

She said, “A swift intervention was immediately coordinated by operatives of the Sakura Division. However, upon sighting the approaching patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions. The officers gave them a hot chase, which led to the recovery of their operational vehicle.”

Odutola disclosed that the vehicle — a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT — was found at the entrance of the community.

“A search conducted on the car led to the recovery of fireworks, commonly known as knockouts, suspected to have been intended as a distraction during the robbery,” she added.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their quick response and professionalism.

Ogunlowo noted that the command had reinforced its operational strategies and deployed additional personnel to flashpoints across the state as part of measures to enhance security during the festive period.

He said, “We are determined to ensure a crime-free environment across Ogun State. I commend our officers for their vigilance and swift action. The command will continue to strengthen patrols and community engagement to prevent criminal activities.”

The CP further advised residents to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night, and to ensure that dark or isolated areas around their residences are properly illuminated.

“The public should also stay connected to our verified social media channels for real-time security updates,” he added.

A similar incident occurred in June 2025 when operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, known as Amotekun, foiled a robbery attempt in Akinale town, Ewekoro area of the state, following a distress call. During the incident, a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, sustained gunshot injuries to his leg.
