The Gombe State Police Command has refuted social media reports alleging that gunmen attacked the ECWA Church in Kashere, Akko Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi, described the claims as “completely false,” stressing that “no such incident occurred anywhere in Kashere.”
According to Abdullahi, security operatives immediately reached out to church authorities after the viral message began circulating.
He revealed that both the Divisional Police Officer in Pindiga and the Officer in Charge of the Kashere outstation contacted a church elder who was present during the service.
“The elder confirmed that there was no attack of any kind. He also stated clearly that the Hausa service went on without any disruption,” Abdullahi said.
He added that police personnel had been stationed at the church throughout the day as part of routine security measures.
“Officers were on ground providing protection, and nothing unusual happened at the premises,” he noted.
The command condemned the circulation of the false report, describing it as an attempt to cause unnecessary panic among residents.
“Spreading unverified information is irresponsible and capable of creating tension. We will investigate the source of this misinformation and take appropriate action,” Abdullahi warned.
He urged residents to depend on credible sources for information and avoid sharing unverified posts, especially those that could heighten fear in the community.
The police reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining safety and security across Gombe State.
