The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Abuja.
According to the police spokesperson, the victims were freed on Saturday evening following a coordinated operation carried out by the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The rescue operation took place at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6, 2026, after days of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical tracking of the kidnappers’ movements.
Mrs. Adegoke and her children were reportedly abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while she was driving them to school in Ibadan.
DCP Placid, while briefing journalists in Abuja, said the operation became possible after detectives successfully traced the suspects’ hideouts.
“The operation was a product of sustained intelligence-led policing, surveillance, and coordinated tactical response,” he said. “Our operatives engaged the kidnappers in a confrontation, which led to the neutralisation of two suspects and the recovery of two rifles.”
He added that the victims were rescued without injury and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and psychological support.
The Inspector-General of Police praised the operatives involved, describing the mission as a demonstration of professionalism and courage. In a statement, he said:
“Our officers showed exceptional bravery and commitment in ensuring that the victims were brought out alive. This operation reflects our resolve to combat violent crime and protect all citizens.”
The police further disclosed that efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds during the encounter. Intelligence-led operations are ongoing to track and arrest all fleeing suspects.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation during the rescue operation, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening security across the country and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
