Police commissioner vows justice after deadly Anambra attack

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has assured residents of Oko community that the police will not relent until those responsible for Thursday’s deadly attack are brought to justice.

The incident, which occurred near the Federal Polytechnic in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, left at least four people dead and several others injured, with two individuals reportedly abducted.

Orutugu visited the crime scene on Friday as part of a high-level assessment tour accompanied by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Tactical Teams, and the Operations Department of the Command.

Describing the attack as “deeply troubling,” the CP confirmed that investigations pointed to cult-related violence. “We are taking a comprehensive approach to both investigate this incident and ensure lasting safety in Oko and surrounding areas,” he said.

Speaking through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said additional personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in and around the polytechnic, especially in student hostels and other densely populated locations.

“We are calling on members of the community, especially students and residents, to support the police by providing credible information that could help in tracking down the perpetrators,” the CP said. “We cannot do it alone. The cooperation of the public is vital.”

In response, the Chairman of Orumba North Local Government, Mr. Casmir Nwafor, and student leaders from the polytechnic pledged their commitment to work closely with law enforcement agencies.
