Police arrest relative for kidnapping two minors in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, who allegedly abducted two minors in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday. He said the children, Halima Hamisu (12) and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu (6), were rescued safely after a swift police operation.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when the children’s father, Aliyu Hamisu, reported that his two children were abducted while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.

“Upon receiving the complaint, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, swung into action, visited the scene, and immediately initiated a criminal investigation protocol,” Wakil stated.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children. Shortly afterward, the suspect contacted the victims’ family, demanding a ₦50 million ransom through a foreign phone number to avoid being traced.

“After negotiation, he agreed to collect ₦1.2 million, which was to be delivered around Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi,” the PPRO explained.

Acting on intelligence, police detectives strategically cordoned off the area and arrested the suspect while attempting to collect the ransom.

Further investigation led the operatives to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the kidnapped children were found and reunited with their parents.
