Police arrest four over killing of three Cameroonians in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four additional suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder of three Cameroonian nationals whose bodies were discovered in Anambra West Local Government Area in November 2025.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Monday, said the breakthrough came after interrogations with two suspects earlier arrested in connection with the incident.

He explained that the new arrests were made on February 13, 2026, during a raid on a shrine in Nando.

“Given the confession of the two suspects already in custody, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu mobilised to the identified shrine,” Ikenga stated.

“On approaching the premises, about 30 able-bodied men were sighted. They immediately opened fire on the police, and our officers professionally engaged them in a gun duel.”

During the operation, police arrested four men identified as Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as Ugoebenajah (27), alleged to be the shrine’s chief priest; Nwabunne Bright (27); Chinecherem Chiama (21); and Michael Ekwunife (38). One suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and was taken to a hospital.

Recovered items include two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, charms, expanded ammunition, 10 live cartridges and five 9mm rounds.

Ikenga added that the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, from Oroma Etiti Anam, escaped during the shootout along with other gang members believed to be injured.
