Police arrest Bauchi teacher for tying, beating 11-year-old pupil

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old Islamic school teacher, Lawal Nasiru, for allegedly assaulting one of his pupils in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, identified as 11-year-old Sa’id Sani, was said to have been tied with a thick rope and severely beaten with a stick and electric cable, leaving him with injuries on his hands and legs.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said, “On September 21, 2025, one Lawal Nasiru of Unguwar Jarmai, Darazo, criminally used a heavy rope to tie the said Sa’id, an Almajiri boy, and further assaulted him with a stick and thick cable, causing various degrees of injuries to his body.”

According to Wakil, the case was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Darazo on September 22 by a community member, Idris Mohammed, who accompanied the injured boy to the station.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led operatives to arrest the suspect. The child was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the act, claiming he restrained the boy to stop him from fleeing the school. “He confessed that the victim attempted to run away before his parents could arrive, and he tied him up to prevent that,” Wakil disclosed.

The victim, however, gave a different account, narrating that he was mercilessly confined with a rope for a prolonged period.
