Pizza Hut to shut 79 UK sites, cut 1,210 jobs

Pizza Hut is set to shut down 68 of its restaurants and 11 delivery outlets across the United Kingdom, resulting in the loss of 1,210 jobs, after its operating company, DC London Pie Limited, entered administration.

The firm, which manages Pizza Hut’s UK restaurant operations, has appointed FTI Consulting as administrators.

Despite the setback, Pizza Hut’s parent company, Yum! Brands, has stepped in to rescue 64 outlets, ensuring that 1,276 jobs are retained.

Famous for its family-friendly atmosphere and salad bar, Pizza Hut has faced persistent financial challenges in the UK, having gone into administration less than a year earlier.

DC London Pie had taken over the UK arm of Pizza Hut from insolvency in January and also runs the franchise in Sweden and Denmark.

A spokesperson for Pizza Hut UK said, “We are pleased to secure the continuation of 64 sites to safeguard our guest experience and protect the associated jobs.”

Similarly, Nicolas Burquier, managing director for Pizza Hut Europe and Canada, stated, “This targeted acquisition aims to safeguard our guest experience and protect jobs where possible.”

He further noted that the company’s immediate focus is on maintaining operational stability at the acquired locations and supporting employees throughout the transition process.
